Charge Distances in 8th Ed |

So, idly musing over this topic while insomnia keeps me up. One of the biggest changes to WFB in 8th is random charges. For anyone who hates math-hammer please ignore this thread, for the rest here's some info that will make charging decisions easier
The way charging will work
Charge distance= movement + 2D6
For cavalry it will be 3D6 picking the highest 2 dice, I haven't seen anywhere that states people with over move 7 get extra dice, so assume just cavalry for now
So, after number crunching, the average charge distance is M+7" for infantry and M+8.46" (to 2 significant figures) for cavalry
However, you can apparently premeasure at any time so you will know what you need to roll, here are the percentage chances of charge distances being rolled (again to 2 sig. figuers)
The first number is the dice roll and then in brackets are the chances for infantry and cavalry respectively
2(100 / 100)
3(97.22 / 99.54)
4(91.67 / 98.15)
5(83.33 / 95.37)
6(72.22 / 89.35)
7(58.33 / 80.56)
8(41.67 / 68.06)
9(27.78 / 52.31)
10(16.67 / 35.65)
11(8.33 / 19.91)
12(2.78 / 7.41)
As you can see, infantry have got a lot faster, however, cavalry are way more reliable.
Dwarves now have 58.33% chance of charging the 10 inches that an elf currently does!
Empire cavalry will charge further than present 68.06% of the time, whereas for brets it's only 52.31% of the time
Hope some of these charge distance stats help to make it easier to decide to charge and feel free to curse my name when the triple one comes up on a cavalry charge, remember the chance is only 0.46% but is still there
Next thing I'll analyse in this topic will be failed charge distances, take it easy

Incoming! The Island of Blood |

Just got e-mail from GW so if anyobody isnt signed up to that, here is the e-mail about the new fantasy starter box
Incoming! The Island of Blood
The Warhammer world; it is a place riven by battle, where mighty armies clash for glory, honour or the entertainment of Dark Gods. Darkened skies, tortured by cataclysmic magics tear open and rain blood upon the ceaseless combatants and the landscape is wracked by the carnage around it. Trees writhe in mutated agony, lashing out with limb and branch and rivers flow thick with the corpses of the slain. All upon the land are consumed by the unending battle, an age of war in which victory and defeat hang in the balance.
Cast against this macabre tableau fight mighty armies -warriors by their million raise banners of defiance or icons of dismay, taking up arms in the clash for survival. Beleaguered and surrounded, the forces of Order fight desperately to stem the tide of the armies of Destruction. Delighting in the carnage and ruination, the Dark Gods look on.
The Island of Blood is but one battleground upon the face of the Warhammer world, a mystical and dangerous place that has been twisted and mutated by the warping power of Chaos. In ages past the Island of Blood was a battleground upon which armies have bled and died in the ageless battle for supremacy... and they will do so again. Soon.
The Island of Blood is the new boxed game for Warhammer and is released this September. Packed full of stunning plastic Citadel miniatures and containing all the rules, dice and templates you'll need to play, it's the essential purchase for fans of the Warhammer hobby.
Meanwhile, if you like the Battle for Skull Pass boxed game (and who wouldn't with all those Goblins and Dwarfs) then it only seems fair to point out that once the last few remaining copies are gone they're gone, and they're never coming back! Pick one up while stocks last.
In August we'll feature more information about The Island of Blood on games-workshop.com and the full details will be released in September's White Dwarf.
If you can't wait until September to get your hands on the new rules then don't forget that the new Warhammer Rulebook and complete range of accessories are available to advance order by clicking on the image below.

So anyone fancy starting up any of the skirmish style games?
Got a poll of which people would prefer to do, you can select multiple but please try to put less than 2 options down
Necromunda is human gangs fighting in the underbelly of a sprawling hive city
Gorkamorka is orks fighting on a desert world with loads of vehicles, ramming speed!!
Mordheim started as a fight for warpstone in a ruined empire city but the expansions ended up with it covering near the whole warhammer world
Alternatively, we could try to make a 40K skirmish game that covers all races, base it off 2nd ed as it is better for that scale of warfare. This way we could get anyone who wants to join just use their own armies so not have to buy new models or anything (on that note loads of models can be converted for these and you don't need the official GW models)

Any one ever played the best game GW ever made?
I have the Man-O-War and Seas of Blood rules. With Dwarf, Dark Elf and High Elf fleets if anyone would fancy a game some time?
